Founding Singer/Songwriter John P Shea Discharged from Hospital Following Surgery After Vocal Session

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

Tuesday 12 June, 2012

BRISBANE, AUSTRALIA — John P Shea, the founding singer/songwriter for one of Brisbane’s most enduring yet underground dark alternative acts, The Jesus Cleaver, has been released from hospital following surgery on Monday night.

Shea completed a studio session on Saturday morning (9th June), laying down vocals for the track, “Empty”, from the band’s upcoming follow-up album, “Life In Clouds”, currently in production. That evening, he was suffering from acute abdominal pain, which continued through Sunday. After a consultation with a local General Practitioner on Monday morning (11th June), he was referred for further tests and admitted to a local north-side Emergency Department. A General Surgeon operated at 7PM, and Shea was discharged later the following day.

Whilst he is recovering, Shea will complete production for the first 5 tracks on “Life In Clouds” (for which all vocals have now been recorded). These first 5 tracks, including the first single, “Mercy” (the band’s debut music video [1], http://youtu.be/hvT96JcTaIo [2] ), will be released as “Part 1” in the near future. However, the remaining vocal production work, originally slated for completion by October 2012, has now been postponed until at least 2013, which in turn will delay the release of “Part 2” until next year.

Shea would like to thank medical staff for their rapid diagnosis and treatment, and fans for their understanding.
