BRISBANE, AUSTRALIA – Brisbane’s most enduring yet underground dark alternative outfit, The Jesus Cleaver, today announced the release of part 1 of their follow-up album, “Life In Clouds”. The release follows the 2010 debut album, “A Private Encyclopaedia”.

“Life In Clouds” continues to see The Jesus Cleaver moving in many musical directions at once, whilst traversing familiar dark romantic songscapes. The current single, “Mercy”, which has been receiving steady playlist adds from dark alternative DJs around the world, opens the album with darkwave/synthpop sensibilities, complete with lead vintage synth duelling with a bass guitar melody.
“Girl With No Name” takes the listener down the rabbit hole in a bass-heavy synth frenzy. The anthemic “New Day” refrains with the inexorable lyrics “Love will come and love will go”, to an equally inescapable bass guitar line and heavy percussion.
The title track, “Life In Clouds”, opens a deeply personal emotional vein, tapped in minimalist, ethereal styling. The post-industrial “Empty” follows, wrapped in circuit-bent guitar power, courtesy of fellow Brisbane act, Blu Blak Truk. Recording the vocals for this track saw founding singer/songwriter John P Shea admitted to hospital shortly awards, undergoing urgent abdominal surgery [2]. “Needless to say”, explained Shea, “I now have a rather special relationship with this song”, having delivered the required “sense of command” in the vocals, and then endured the aftermath.
The closing track (for part 1), “Oramics Interlude”, is a humble tribute to British synth pioneer, Daphne Oram, without whom there would be no BBC Radiophonic Workshop, and thus no Doctor Who theme song. The track was composed on the Oramics emulator, and highlights the expressiveness of Oram’s remarkable creation, the original of which is currently being restored and cloned at The Science Museum in London (visit http://daphneoram.org/ [3] for further information).
Overall, “Life In Clouds” represents a deeper, more textured offering, with a stronger and more confident delivery. The second part of the album is expected to be released in 2013, once Shea completes a self-imposed vocal rest period following his recent health incident.

BRISBANE, AUSTRALIEN – Brisbanes beständigste Underground-Dark-Alternative Band, The Jesus Cleaver, verkündeten heute die Veröffentlichung des ersten Teils ihres neuen Albums “Life In Clouds”. Die Veröffentlichung folgt dem im Jahr 2010 erschienenen Debütalbum “A Private Encyclopaedia”.
“Life In Clouds” (Teil 1) verfügt über 6 Original Titel, darunter die Single “Mercy”, das erste Musikvideo der Band http://youtu.be/hvT96JcTaIo [1]
“Life In Clouds” zeigt, dass The Jesus Cleaver sich in vielen musikalischen Richtungen auf einmal bewegen, während sie zugleich vertraute, dunkle, romantische musikalische Landschaften durchqueren. Die aktuelle Single “Mercy”, die von immer mehr dark-alternative DJs auf der ganzen Welt zu ihrer Playlist hinzugefügt wird, eröffnet das Album mit Darkwave / Synthpop Sensibilitäten, vollendet mit einem leitenden Vintage-Synthesizer Duell mit einer Bass Melodie.
“Girl With No Name” zieht den Zuhörer mit einem Bass-Heavy Synth Rausch in seinen Bann. Die hymnischen “New Day” Refrains mit dem unerbittlichen Text “Love will come and love will go” werden unterstützt von einer ebenso unausweichlichen Bass Linie und schwerer Percussion.
Das Titelstück, “Life In Clouds”, öffnet eine zutiefst persönliche emotionale Ader, angezapft von minimalistischen, ätherischen Stilen. Es folgt das post-industrielle “Empty”, eingehüllt in Circuit-Bent Gitarren Power, bei welchem die Kollegen der Band, Blu Blak Truk (ebenfalls aus Brisbane) mitwirkten. Während den Aufzeichnungen des Gesangs zu diesem Song, wurde Gründer und Sänger/Songwriter John Shea P ins Krankenhaus eingeliefert um sich einer dringenden Operation im Bauchbereich zu unterziehen. “Unnötig zu erwähnen “, erklärte Shea,” Ich habe jetzt eine ganz besondere Beziehung zu diesem Song “, nachdem er den Gesang mit dem erforderlichen “Befehlston” aufgenommen hatte und dann die Nachwirkungen ertrug.
Der abschließende Track (für Teil 1) “Oramics Interlude”, ist eine bescheidene Hommage an die britische Synthie-Pionierin, Daphne Oram, ohne die es kein BBC Radiophonic Workshop, und somit keine Doctor Who Themen Songs geben würde. Der Track wurde auf dem Oramics Emulator komponiert, und unterstreicht die Ausdruckskraft der bemerkenswerten Schöpfung von Oram, dessen Original derzeit im Science Museum in London restauriert und geklont wird (siehe http://daphneoram.org/ [3] für weitere Informationen).
Insgesamt steht “Life In Clouds” für ein tieferes, strukturiertes Angebot mit einer stärkeren und zuversichtlicheren Auslieferung. Der zweite Teil des Albums wird voraussichtlich im Jahr 2013 veröffentlicht, sobald Shea eine selbst auferlegte gesangliche Ruhezeit aufgrund seines jüngsten gesundheitlichen Zwischenfalls beendet hat.
